Chirin-ga-shima, an uninhabited island floating in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, can be reached by crossing a sandy path that appears only at low tide.

In the past, old pine trees grew densely here, and it was named "Chirinkajima" because sailors on sailing ships used to navigate by listening to the sound of the pine forest swaying in the wind.

Chiringajima is also known as the "Island of Matrimony" as the sandbar connecting the mainland and the island symbolizes a "bridge" and "bonds between people."

The approximately 800-meter sandbar leading to the island (commonly known as Chiririn Road) only appears during low tides of spring and mid-range tides from March to October. The way the path emerges as the tide recedes is truly mysterious. On the island, you'll find various spots, including a scenic drive, observation decks, and a bell called "Chirin's BELL" where you can ring it to wish for happiness.
