10 Recommended Night View Spots in Nagasaki! Introducing everything from classic spots to hidden gems perfect for dates!

Nagasaki is a city known for its night view, created by its basin-shaped terrain. The lights that sparkle on the mountains surrounding the harbor are a breathtaking sight, like a jewel box.

From famous spots like Mount Inasa and Mount Nabekkan to hidden gems known only to locals, Nagasaki offers numerous tourist attractions where you can enjoy captivating night views.

This time, we'll introduce 10 night view spots recommended for dates and trips. Please explore Nagasaki city in search of beautiful night views.

Reasons why Nagasaki's night view was chosen as one of the "New Three Major Night Views of the World"

Nagasaki's night view was selected as one of the "New Three Great Night Views of the World" along with Monaco and Shanghai in 2021. The "New Three Great Night Views of the World" are three cities with spectacular night views, determined by the original criteria of the Night View Tourism Convention and Bureau. The certified cities for the New Three Great Night Views are reviewed once every ten years.

The secret to the beauty of Nagasaki's night view, also known as the "10 million dollar night view," lies in its basin-shaped terrain surrounding the port. Nagasaki, with its long history as one of Japan's premier nightscapes, is characterized by being viewable from various locations such as Mt. Inasa and Mt. Nabekan. It is precisely because of its geography as a port town nestled among mountains that the lights appear to spread out in a three-dimensional panorama.

The classic Nagasaki night view! 360-degree panoramic view from Mt. Inasa Observatory

稲佐山展望台

Located about a 10-minute drive from the center of Nagasaki City, Mt. Inasa stands at an elevation of 333 meters. It's Nagasaki's premier night view spot, acclaimed as a "10 million dollar night view," and from its summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic vista.

From the foot of the mountain to the summit, a ropeway operates, allowing you to enjoy a roughly 5-minute aerial stroll in a fully glass-enclosed space. If you choose to ascend via the slope car, which began operating in 2020, it moves slowly and takes approximately 8 minutes to reach the top. Please choose whichever you prefer!

The city lights, illuminating the mortar-shaped landscape spreading out from the harbor, are like an endless sea of light. Furthermore, Mt. Inasa has features you can enjoy searching for. A heart-shaped light is located to the upper left of Nagasaki Station, and constellation lights adorn the mountainside towards Mt. Kotei from 8 PM to 9:50 PM. If you time it right, be sure to look for them.

Not only are the night views impressive, but the daytime scenery is also worth seeing. On clear days, you can reportedly see as far as Unzen, Amakusa, and the Goto Islands. The transition from the moment the sun sinks into the sea to the night view is also wonderful, making it a perfect spot for those who want to take their time enjoying the scenery.

Since it's a popular spot that many tourists visit, we recommend going early in the morning on weekends or during the tourist season.

[Basic Information]

  • Business Hours: 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM (Rooftop Observatory open 24 hours)

  • Price: Round-trip ropeway | Adults ¥1,250, Junior high and high school students ¥940, Elementary school students and toddlers ¥620

  • Access: Approximately 5 minutes from the Ropeway Fuchijinja Station boarding to the summit.

Its proximity to the city is a charm! The port's night view as seen from Nabekanmuri Park

鍋冠山公園

Nabekamuriyama, located above the Nansante district at an elevation of 169 meters, is a nighttime scenic spot affectionately known locally as "Nabukaburiyama." Its appeal lies in its height, about half that of Mt. Inasa, allowing visitors to feel closer to the night view.

From the observation deck, which was renovated in 2016, you can get a panoramic view of Nagasaki Port and the city. You can also see Mount Inasa on the opposite side of the sea, the illuminated Megami Bridge, and sometimes large cruise ships departing. The view, where the mountain ridges and the port lights overlap, is like a single painting.

Because of its lower elevation, one of the highlights of Nabekanmuri Mountain is being able to feel the city's lights up close. You can also hear the foghorns from the port, allowing you to savor the atmosphere of a Nagasaki port town.

The area around the observation deck of Mt. Kanzaki is well-equipped with streetlights, walking paths, and restrooms, making it safe to visit even at night. Since there are fewer tourists than on Mt. Inasa, you can also enjoy the night view at your own pace, which is a nice bonus. This spot is recommended for those who want to see the city's night view up close or enjoy a peaceful viewing experience.

[Basic Information]

  • Opening Hours: 24 hours

  • Cost: Free

  • Access: Approximately 2 minutes on foot from the streetcar station "Ishibashi."

The romantic night view of Kazagashira Park to enjoy from dusk.

風頭公園

About 3km east of JR Nagasaki Station, Futo Park is located on Mount Futo, which stands at an elevation of 151.9m. It has also been selected as a "Japan Night View Heritage Site," and you can enjoy night views from various spots within the park.

Before you lies the city, and beyond it, the Megami Ohashi bridge and Nagasaki Port unfold. Because it's located lower than Mt. Inasa and Mt. Nabekan, the city lights feel closer, creating a warm night view that seems to convey the lives of the people. The way the streetlights and house lights twinkle in detail is truly enchanting.

Since the park is on the east side of the city, you can see the sunset towards the Megami Bridge before it gets dark. The view, which gradually transitions from an orange sky to a nightscape, is also spectacular, so we highly recommend visiting in the evening.

Kazagashira Park is also famous for the statue of Ryoma Sakamoto that stands there. At night, the statue is illuminated, showing a dignified appearance different from its daytime look. Around the statue, there are also literary monuments by Ryotaro Shiba, so it's a must-see, especially for history buffs.

Kaze-no-Atama Park is also a beloved spot among locals for its flowers. In spring, about 350 cherry trees bloom, and in early summer, approximately 2,500 hydrangeas are in full bloom. A Cherry Blossom Festival is also held in spring, and at night, lanterns are lit, creating a magical atmosphere.

For those who want to see everyday scenery from a different angle or those who wish to spend their time leisurely while feeling history, try visiting Futago Park to see the night view.

[Basic Information]

  • Business Hours: 24 Hours

  • Fee: Free

  • Access: Approximately 15 minutes by prefectural bus from JR Nagasaki Station to "Kazagashira-cho," alight at "Kazagashira-cho" and walk for about 5 minutes.

Glover Garden, built on the hills of Minami-Yamate overlooking Nagasaki Port, is one of Nagasaki's premier tourist destinations, featuring a row of Meiji-era Western-style houses. It houses many historical buildings that retain the atmosphere of the time, including the former Glover Residence, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Since the former Glover Residence was registered as a World Heritage site in 2015, the spot has garnered even more attention.

Normally, Glover Garden closes at 6 PM, but during the period of extended evening hours, lights illuminate the garden and Western-style buildings, creating a romantic atmosphere different from the daytime. Located where you can overlook Nagasaki Port with Mt. Inasa in the background, and close to the port, you can enjoy a spectacular night view. From the terrace of the former Mitsubishi Dock House No. 2, situated at the highest point in the garden, you can also enjoy a magnificent view of Mt. Inasa and Nagasaki Port on the opposite shore.

Within the park, the stone path also features a power spot in the shape of a heart-shaped stone, said to grant wishes of love if touched.

Additionally, from January 26, 2025, to March 31, 2026, "Glover Garden Lantern Night" will be held, featuring 400 colorful lanterns adorning the park. Visitors can stroll through Glover Garden at night amidst a magical atmosphere, complemented by the New World Three Great Night Views. The countless lanterns reflected in the glass of the moving walkway are said to be perfect for photos.

If you want to enjoy both a historic atmosphere and a night view at the same time, please visit.

At an elevation of about 40 meters above the ground, you can enjoy a deep and expansive night view. If you're lucky with timing, you might even spot the Shinkansen Kamome train at Nagasaki Station.

The garden on the rooftop of the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum is open until 8 PM and is a hidden gem where you can quietly enjoy the night view.

The view from the inclined elevator on the special Glover Sky Road

グラバースカイロード

The Grab Sky Road is a funicular elevator built as a means for residents living on steep slopes to travel smoothly. It's said to be the first elevator in the country to be recognized as a "road." While it serves as a vital mode of transportation for those living on slopes, tourists can also use it for free.

After transferring from a diagonal elevator to a vertical one, a viewing spot appears immediately upon disembarking. From the viewing spot, you can enjoy the Nagasaki night view, created by the port and mountains, spread out before you, with views of Higashiyamate with its Western-style houses lined up against Mt. Recommended for evening strolls! Tourist spots with charming illuminations

Nagasaki has many tourist attractions that become even more beautiful at night. Around Chinatown and Suibunomori Park, seasonal events are also held, allowing you to enjoy the night view as you stroll.

Illuminated historic buildings and bridges take on a different appearance than in the daytime. Please enjoy the fantastical scenery as you stroll through Nagasaki at night.

The light reflecting on the water surface creates a mystical view of the Meganebashi bridge.

眼鏡橋

The Meganebashi Bridge, built in 1634, is one of Japan's three most famous bridges, named so because its reflection on the river surface resembles "glasses." It is as famous as the Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo and the Kintaikyo Bridge in Yamaguchi, and it was actually the model for the Nijubashi Bridge at the Imperial Palace. Although a part of it was damaged in the great flood of Nagasaki in 1982, it was restored the following year and designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

At night, illuminated by lights, the shape of glasses floats clearly on the water's surface. The reflection of the stone arch bridge in the water is so beautiful it makes you want to take a picture.

During the "Nagasaki Lantern Festival," a winter specialty of Nagasaki, the area around Meganebashi Bridge is also brightly decorated with lanterns.

When the water level is low, you can use the stairs to go down to the river and enjoy a walk along the water's edge. Walking along the river, you can feel the history of the stone bridge, which is also a charming aspect.

Near Meganebashi bridge, there's a food stall selling the traditional "Chirinchirin Ice." Chirinchirin Ice is a sherbet-like, not-too-sweet ice cream known as a Nagasaki specialty. They are open except on rainy days, so why not try it during your stroll?

  • Opening Hours: 24 hours

  • Cost: Free

  • Access: Approximately 4 minutes from Nagasaki Station by streetcar (bound for Hotarujaya), get off at City Hall and walk approximately 4 minutes.

The whitewashed National Treasure, Oura Church, rising into the night sky.

大浦天主堂

Oura Church, built in Nagasaki after the country's opening during the late Edo period. Facing Glover Street in Nanzan-sho, it is a Gothic-style church with beautiful stained glass. It is known as the oldest church in Japan that still exists today, and in 2018, it was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site as part of the "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region."

Illuminated by lights, Oura Church glows with its white walls emerging from the night sky, enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere. The contrast with the surrounding greenery is also beautiful, creating a scene with an exotic charm. When viewed from a high vantage point in the direction of Mt. Inasa, its pointed roof appears even more prominent against the night sky.

If you visit Oura Church, be sure to take a peek inside. Some of the stained glass dates back to the renovation in 1879 and is truly worth admiring.

The adjacent building is currently open as the Christian Museum and displays materials related to Christianity in Nagasaki. When you visit Oura Church, please consider visiting it as well.

This is a recommended spot for those who want to enjoy both Nagasaki's unique history and its night views.

Enjoy the illuminated beauty of Megami Ohashi bridge at the live event!

女神大橋

Spanning Nagasaki Port, the Megami Bridge (Venus Wing), which connects the southern and western parts of the city, is the sixth-largest cable-stayed bridge in Japan with a central span of 480 meters. Its cable-supported form is cherished as a symbol of Nagasaki.

The bridge's illumination is also recognized as a "Japan Night View Heritage Site." While it is usually lit in a primarily white hue, during events, you can enjoy colorful illuminations. A pedestrian walkway is also maintained on the bridge, allowing you to enjoy the lights of Nagasaki city and the hotels as if you were looking down from the sky. It is a large bridge with a clearance of 65 meters below the girder, allowing large ships to pass through.

Since you can't stop on Megami Bridge, if you want to enjoy the night view at your leisure, we recommend parking your car in the free parking lot on the Tomachi side and walking across. It takes about a 6-minute walk from the parking lot to reach the most beautiful viewing spot, which is around the middle of the bridge.

Boats also come and go at your feet, allowing you to fully soak in the harbor atmosphere. The contrast between the blue-lit Nagasaki Port and the dark sea surface is exquisite. Visiting from dusk into the night is recommended as you can leisurely observe the changing scenery. We highly recommend visiting on a driving route, perhaps for a date.
